Interview with Futuristic Polar Bears

Hi this is Luke, Fran & Rhys from the Futuristic Polar Bears from UK. Between us we have over 25 years in the music industry playing all over the world and working with and meeting some great people which House Music is all about.

How did it all begin, what made you start with the producing and the Dj:ing?

Luke: Myself and Fran had been working together for about 5 years before we met Rhys. We had been booked to play a gig in Swansea in Wales where Rhys is from and it was his friend who booked us. We just started chatting that night and decided we wanted to do a collaboration in the studio. Rhys had already been producing under the name Stefano Azati and had some releases on CR2 whilst myself and Fran had been working with Kid Massive for several years for Audiodamage Records. As soon as all 3 of us sat in the studio together we came up with a belter and decided to start the Futuristic Polar Bears.

What are you aiming for?

Fran: Our main aim is to always provide quality house music for people to enjoy. You get a great feeling watching people enjoy our music at events and that means a lot to us. As long as people are enjoying our sound and watching us play we will keep doing it!!!
Rhys: We have some goals to achieve including labels we want to sign with, Clubs/festivals we want to play at and people we want to work with. We have them on a vision board in the studio and it’s the 1st and last thing we look at every day when we get in to work.

Futuristic Polar Bears has signed with Fransesco Diaz’s own record label Wormland Black, how did that happen?

Luke: We made Offshore just before the summer and our friend Jason Herd road tested it for us on his Australian Tour as well as numerous plays in Ibiza and the UK from us. The feedback was great on it and we carefully picked who we’d like to sign it with. Amongst all the offers we got we felt Wormland would do the best job. Francesco and Sebastian from Wormland have been brilliant and we hope to keep working with the label for a long time. We have actually just signed out follow up single with them ”Shiva” that we made with Hayley Parsons that is out next year.

Do you have any role models or something like that?

Fran: We don’t necessarily have any role models but we take influences and guidance from a lot of people. It’s important to have good friends around you and like minded professional people working with you in this industry.

In what Genre do you see yourselves in?

Rhys: We are in the house music genre plain and simple. Our ethos is ”As long as you can drop it peak time in a set, we’ll either make it or play it”

How’s the situation right now, any special gigs and releases?

Luke:We’ve had a busy 2011 studio wise and gig wise. 2012 we hope is going to be a special year for us. We’ve just signed with FRESH ARTISTE MANAGEMENT for our bookings and they have great roster with DJ’s like Sonny Wharton, Jonathan Ulysses, DONS, Peyton, Matt Caselli, Hayley Parsons, K Klass & many more. We are also working with some great people on collaborations right now including Jonathan Ulysses, Ralph Good, Sonny Wharton, Hoxton Whores and Kid Massive.

Where do see yourselves in the future? And what do you hope for?

Fran: We hope to be doing this as long as we can. If you put hard work in and believe in yourself this industry can be very rewarding. Touring America, Asia and Australia is a not to distant goal for us that we hope to achieve in the next 24months.
